Original Prints

LITHOGRAPHS: In 1980 Ray studied Lithographic Printmaking at the University of South Carolina. Shortly after his studies he designed and built his 18 x 24 litho press and a conversion unit for intaglio (etching) printing and acquired the necessary supplies. By 1982 he had printed his first limited edition lithograph in his studio. As to date 38 editions have been sold out.

The following lithographs were pulled from litho stones and/or aluminum plates. Please do not confuse them with offset reproductions. These are signed and numbered ‘original’ lithographs and printed in Ray’s studio by hand in small editions. The prints are complete with double matting and foam core backing ready for your choice of frame. These prints are unframed and shown to visualize how the finished art can look. The inner mat is white with a black core, giving a fine black bevel all around which acts as a feature stripe to set off the print from the mat, and the outer mat is eggshell . . . a neutral solution to fit your color scheme. Click on any of the miniature detailed pictures below for a larger view of the entire art together with the edition size, number of colors, framing size and price.

EMBOSSED LITHOGRAPHS: The embossing adds a sculptured effect to the lithograph bringing about additional design and subtle highlights. The embossing is the last step in the process but it still must be in register with the overall design. These are also unframed and ready for framing with double matting and foam core backing. The inner mat is white with a black core. When beveled it produces a fine black line around the art setting the art off from the mat. The outer mat is eggshell . . . a neutral solution for your color scheme. COLLAGRAPHS: The collagraph is an original intaglio print in which the plate is commonly made from a board or other material upon which three-dimensional elements are attached. However these collagraph plates were made with material unusual for printmaking discovered during Ray’s experimental sessions. The plates were inked and then wiped as etchings before printing. These prints are unframed but ready for framing with your choice of frame. The frames shown are to visualize how the finished art can look. They are double matted with a foam core backing with the inner mat white with a black core and the outer mat eggshell. This combination will work with most any decor. When you click on any of the miniatures it will display a larger view with the pertinent information of that print.

LITHOGRAPH / COLLAGRAPHS: A lithograph/collagraph is a blending of the two separate printing processes . . . lithography and intaglio. This second step, intaglio, imparts an additional color and at the same time embosses the print. However, after inking, in this case, the plate is not wiped. They are double matted with the same mats as the others, not framed but are ready for framing. The frames shown are to visualize how the finished art can look.
