How many of you have seen a sight such as this? The pole was constructed to accomodate sixteen families of Purple Martins which nest in the dried gourds hanging for them. In the spring and summer, when mosquitos are really at their high point, the Martins, at dusk, fly through the swarms of mosquitos swooping up and down, dipping and gobbling up the insects as quickly as possible. It's quite a sight to see . . . the Martins are so maneuverable! And to those that live nearby, especially on the farms, are paid back many times over with fewer mosquitos to deal with.    Ray
